So after I saw the “fun” discussions other lance stans/Voltron fans were having over the Christmas sweater post I needed to express my feels…but not on the sweater stuff/stereotype discourse but more on the allurance pairing? And everybody else’s thoughts?

So listen, I’m not an anti. I love Lance and love him with almost EVERYBODY on the show. I’m so excited that the creators have confirmed that he will end up with someone and it will be amazing and all the happiness that my sunshine child deserves…but I’m a little…reserved if it’s going to be Allura that he ends up with? So one of the tropes that really gets on my nerves (and I’ve seen it more in eastern anime) is when there is one character (let’s call them Character A) who is TOTALLY in love with the beautiful character(character B) from the beginning. And it’s very obvious like a lust type of thing or just liking them because they’re pretty etc…but Character A keeps telling people that it is real love. Follow so far? 

And of course, character B always brushes off the advances of character A - as they should because there’s NO SOLID GROUND FOR THEM TO HAVE FEELINGS - aka how Allura first reacts to Lance. But then as the show wraps up character A either does one random act of kindness or character B just miraculously decides that they want to date/be with character A because they haven’t been paired off yet. AND THAT’S IT. There’s no character development, no REASON that character B should have feelings for character A other than they were really stubborn in going after character B. And there was no talk about how character A really did have a puppy crush that turned into real love. It’s just supposed to be this weird comedic love from the start and we are supposed to take it as serious? I just don’t really accept this. 

NOW I love Allura. And I love Lance. And I could totally see them together. But they have a LONG way to go before they get there. I get kind of annoyed that apparently Lance is supposed to really love Allura just BECAUSE. And I really want to see his feelings for her evolve until he realizes like…hey now I think I really do love her what I felt before was nothing compared to this. You get me? It’s just not believable to me that Lance is in deep love with Allura right now to me. I need their development real bad. Let them become friends first so that Lance can REALLY GET TO KNOW Allura before he comes back to his romantic stuff. And also Allura is a super strong female character (SUPER BAE) and I don’t want her to fall into the trope of….oh well I guess if this is the only guy I should be with him because a woman needs a man thing. I want stuff to happen, I need her to bond with Lance and have this slow-growing of feelings from her starting to blush at Lance’s flirting to her eventually being like…well shit I guess I really do like this guy?

If you want an example of a show that I think did a relationship like this really well was Teen Wolf. Now I know rabid Sterek fans might rear their heads talking about Stiles not ending up with Derek (lol I kid I’m a Sterek fan), Stiles and Lydia’s relationship was what I think of one of their crowning achievements. Stiles had “loved” Lydia since he was little. And their relationship grew into this deep friendship as both of the characters grew and changed independently, dated other people, and in the end, ended up back together. (I will forever be bitter that I didn’t get a Stydia kiss in the last episode)

So really I’m just worried because I’m seeing more and more information that makes me believe that Lance and Allura are going to end up together. And while I would think they would be cool together or with different people I just want the Voltron team to do their relationship RIGHT. I love the Avatar series because of how amazing all the relationship development was and I really hope they work their magic with this show too. 

But what am I saying there’s still half the show left in the first Voltron contract there’s so much time to develop things

Anybody else have thoughts? Comments? Agree/Disagree? I need to know!

I’m surprised I didn’t run into any Voltron Antis at AX, but I forgot my water bottle with the “ Anti Tears ” on the day of the gathering so I couldn’t drag them out to come at me LOL
